Prophetic Remedies Prescribed By Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ guided his Ummah in all aspects of life, including health and well-being.

His teachings, preserved in authentic Hadith, include natural remedies that continue to benefit humanity today. Known as Prophetic Medicine (Tibb an-Nabawi), these remedies are both spiritually significant and supported by modern science for their healing properties.

Hijama (Cupping Therapy)

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Indeed the best of remedies you have is Hijama (cupping).” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5371)

Hijama helps detoxify the body, relieve pain, and improve circulation. The Prophet ﷺ himself underwent cupping at different times in his life.

Honey

Allah ﷻ mentions honey as a healing for mankind (Surah An-Nahl 16:69).
The Prophet ﷺ prescribed honey for stomach problems, as narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari (5684).

Honey is antibacterial, soothing, and supports digestion and immunity.

HoneBlack Seed (Nigella Sativa)

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Use the black seed, for indeed it is a cure for every disease except death.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5687, Sahih Muslim 2215)

Black seed strengthens immunity, reduces inflammation, and supports overall health.

Olive & Olive Oil

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Eat olive oil and anoint yourselves with it, for it comes from a blessed tree.” (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 1851, Hasan)

The Qur’an also mentions the olive as a blessed tree (Surah An-Nur 24:35).
Olives and olive oil are rich in healthy fats, antioxidants, and are beneficial for heart, skin, and digestive health.

Dates (Ajwa Dates)

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever eats seven Ajwa dates in the morning, neither magic nor poison will harm him that day.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5445, Sahih Muslim 2047)

Dates provide natural sugars, fiber, and essential nutrients. Ajwa dates, in particular, hold special significance in Sunnah.

Figs

Allah ﷻ swears by the fig in the Qur’an:
“By the fig and the olive…” (Surah At-Tin 95:1)

While not directly mentioned in Hadith, figs were known and consumed during the Prophet’s ﷺ time. They are rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants — promoting digestion, bone strength, and overall wellness.

Barley (Talbina)

The Prophet ﷺ recommended barley porridge (known as Talbina) for comfort and healing.
He said:
“Talbina gives rest to the heart of the patient and makes it active and relieves some of his sorrow and grief.” (Sahih al-Bukhari 5689, Sahih Muslim 2216)

Barley is a nutritious grain that supports digestion, lowers cholesterol, and helps with recovery.

Zamzam Water

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3062, Hasan)

Zamzam water is blessed and may be consumed for healing, spiritual benefit, or personal needs.
